Why should anyone take up self defense or Martial Arts, you may have several reasons such as protecting yourself against bullies, get fit, lose weight, become more confident in every thing that you do. No matter what your reasons are you will feel extremely good about yourself when you achieve your goal which ever road you decide to take in life.
The First part of the syllabus you will be taught is the double Sai kata consisting of 24 Techniques the Sai kata will teach you how to strike simultaneously and alternate your strikes when in combat. It will also teach you how to judge speed, distance, and improve your fluidity, agility and accuracy when in combat if the need arises.
The last part of the syllabus you will be introduce to is some demonstrations such as: sword man against the double Sai. (The double Sai kata is an excellent weapon to win competitions in Martial Arts)
To be successful in any subject you need to have an open mind and study under a good Instructor who also has an open mind and is ready to modify at any given time.

Combat Review: “he looks like he could be Chuck Norris’ brother”.
“Master George A. Maughan. 10th Degree Black Belt in American Advanced Kenpo Karate System, he looks like he could be Chuck Norris’ brother”. Kenpo practitioners will, however find plenty to admire. As will all martial artists. The techniques are sound and broken down very precisely with constant oral explanation. The yellow belt DVD, for example, illustrates basic stances. 10 different self defense techniques, short form 1, freestyle techniques, and star blocking set 1. Seeing the form preformed was excellent, and then its application demonstrated with a partner was even more fulfilling. Each movement given practical relevance. The same formula is used, to good effect, with the star blocking set, putting the movements into perspective. The full technique is a blur when preformed by Master George A. Maughan, testament to his speed and power. Due to the huge success of his DVD’s he is now teaching on Martial Arts Today on American TV and in demand for seminars all over the world.”

Mastering Karate: Kumite $21.52 Get ready to improve your karate skills with Master Hirokazu Kanazawa (Kancho), Manabu Murakami (SKI World Champion 1991 & 1994), and Nobuaki Kanazawa (SKI World Champion 2000). On this DVD you be instructed on the most common combinations as well some of the more complex combinations Kancho teaches. You will also watch the masters perform at full speed plus rare footage of their matches in Tokyo at the World Championships. This DVD is a terrific learning tool as well as a great study of the past karate masters. |

His master may be gone, but Cho Cho is determined to find out who the culprit behind the killing really is. In order to carry out his daring mission he’ll need a little human help though, and when Cho Cho teams with a brilliant but bumbling computer wizard, there’s no mystery that this unlikely pair can’t solve. The Karate Kid [Blu-ray] $14.14 Newly arrived in California from New Jersey, teenager Daniel (Ralph Macchio) almost immediately runs afoul of karate-trained high school bullies. He is rescued by Japanese janitor Miyagi (Noriyuki “Pat” Morita), who agrees to teach Daniel how to harness karate for good instead of brutality. The film culminates in a championship karate bout, pitting Daniel against his sworn enemy Johnny (William Zabka) — the cruel and thuggish boyfriend of Ali (Elisabeth Shue), with whom Daniel has fallen in love (and vice versa). Real-life karate champ Chuck Norris was offered the role of Kreese, the sadistic coach who goads Johnny into fighting dirty, but Norris turned down the role, refusing to be shown utilizing his skills negatively onscreen. Vastly popular, The Karate Kid spawned three sequels of rapidly descending merit, as well as a Saturday-morning cartoon series. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi |

Karate: The Hand of Death $9.86 In this early martial arts action-drama, Matt Carver (Joel Holt) is an American who studied in Japan and is returning for his first visit in quite some time. Not long after he arrives, Matt comes into the possession of an unusual coin, which soon makes him the target of British ne’er-do-well Ivan Mayberry (Frank Blaine) and a band of Japanese toughs. After becoming reacquainted with his old friend Akira (Akira Shiga), who now runs a karate school in Tokyo, Matt learns just why the coin is so valuable — it features code that, if correctly unraveled, will lead its bearer to a fortune in platinum. As Matt tries to sort out the good guys from the bad guys, he’s forced to put his skills in karate to use. One of the first feature films centered on the martial arts (and certainly the first in English), Karate, the Hand of Death was made with the cooperation of the Japanese Karate Foundation. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi |

Picking up where the first film left off, The Karate Kid Part II finds Danny and Miyagi making an emergency trip to Okinawa, where Miyagi’s father is dying. Here they revisit Miyagi’s childhood sweetheart (Nobu McCarthy), who, Miyagi believes, had been wheedled into an arranged marriage with loose-cannon karate expert Sato (Danny Kamekona). Little does Miyagi realize that the woman is still single; Sato is still around as well, however, and intent on resuming the fight with his old nemesis. Morita agrees; meanwhile, Danny is challenged by Kamekona’s pugnacious nephew (Yuji Okumoto). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi |

The Karate Kid $14.17 When a 12-year-old from Detroit moves to China with his mother and incurs the wrath of the class bully at his new school, he makes an unlikely ally in the form of his aging maintenance man, a kung fu master who teaches him the secrets to self-defense. Upon arriving at his new school, Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) develops a powerful crush on pretty classmate Mei Ying. The feeling is mutual, although the cultural divide between Dre and Mei Ying makes a friendship unlikely, and romance impossible. When cruel classmate and kung fu prodigy Cheng learns of Dre’s feelings for Mei Ying, he harasses and humiliates the young outsider in front of the entire school. With no one to turn to for help, Dre confides his fears in kindly maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), a kung fu master who knows that serenity and maturity — not punches and power — are the true keys to mastering the martial arts. As Dre prepares to face down his intimidating tormentor, he begins to realize that the real fight is just beginning. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |

Next Karate Kid [WS/P&S] $10.21 Karate Kid, Part 4 is better known by its release title, The Next Karate Kid. The sole holdover from the first three KK flicks is Noriyuki “Pat” Morita, once more cast as janitor/martial arts maven Miyagi Yakuga. This time, his pupil is orphaned 17-year-old Hilary Swank, the granddaughter of Miyagi’s war buddy. Relentlessly bullied by her male classmates and feeling responsible for her parents’ fatal accident, Swank is taught self-worth through the tough-but-gentle guidance of Miyagi. While The Next Karate Kid may come off as too “PC” for the tastes of some fans, it is heaps better than the appalling Karate Kid, Part 3. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi |

Karate Kid, Part III [WS/P&S] $10.32 John G. Avildsen rehashes his shopworn formula for another go-round in The Karate Kid Part III. Going against the wishes of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki “Pat” Morita), Daniel (Ralph Macchio) will defend his karate title in an All-Valley Championship match arranged by his nemesis Kreese (Martin Kove), whose karate studio folded after his star student lost the championship to Daniel. Kreese’s friend, Vietnam veteran and toxic waste dumper Terry (Thomas Ian Griffith), agrees to help his old pal regain the championship trophy. Daniel’s rival Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan) is known as “the bad boy of karate,” and Daniel feels he requires more training to vanquish him. But Mr. Miyagi refuses to help Daniel train for the tournament: “Karate to defend life and honor means something. To defend a plastic trophy means nothing.” As a result, Daniel naïvely falls into the clutches of Terry, who takes him on as a karate student. But after Daniel finds himself trapped at the bottom of a cliff and Daniel’s girlfriend, Jessica (Robyn Lively), has her life threatened, Mr. Miyagi realizes the bad guys have gone too far and agrees to coach Daniel for the tournament. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi |

Karate Kid Collection [3 Discs] $24.32 The Karate Kid film series waxes its way onto DVD with this fine DVD collection from Columbia Home Entertainment. This set contains all four action-packed Mr. Miyagi movies, which have each been given a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, along with various sound options that certainly get the job done, though don’t expect too many bells and whistles in that category (this is the Karate Kid, after all!). The first film has been given the most attention, with two 20-minute making-ofs that feature extensive cast and crew interviews, along with behind-the-scenes footage. Other featurettes include an interview with the fight choreographer along with a sit-down interview with composer Bill Conti as he talks you through the score. Aside from another featurette on bonsai trees, there’s an extremely fun full-length audio commentary from director John G. Avildsen, writer Robert Kamen and actors Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. Between a healthy dose of laughs, the motley bunch make their way through the film and manage to entertain and dish out stories at the same time, giving the track an unexpected light quality that is certain to be a surprise to those not expecting much. The sequels don’t get too much love, outside of a vintage featurette for Part II, along with previews for the first and second film. With a low price point, this collection is actually a pretty good deal, considering that no one in their right mind would probably pony up the dough for the third or fourth flick. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi |

Karate Kid Collection Box Set $24.62 The Karate Kid film series waxes its way onto DVD with this fine DVD collection from Columbia Home Entertainment.
